1997 venture Temp Gauge

I have a 1997 Venture. The temp. gauge is acting very irratic. It takes about 15 seconds to red line then it stays there for about 5 seconds. Then it drops back to normal instantly. The temp sending unit has been changed. My intake gasket was trash, so that was replaced. It won't do it when it is idling in my driveway. The water pump was changed in Aug. and seems to be working fine. I have had 3 people look at it including a dealer. Everyone said it was the gasket. That is fixed and the problem still exists. The engine does not seem to be heating up when the gauge says it is but I am not sure about that. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with my temp gauge acting "funny"...it ended up being a problem with sludge in the coolant...a pretty common problem with the dex-cool coolant. You might check the condition of the coolant, but I would think the dealer would have checked that?

I had the EXACT same symptoms on my 97, however for me the infamous Intake Manifold Gasket replacement solved the problem. I would think you may need to talk to the shop that did the gasket repair?
