Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth

I dont know about you, but I love going around racing mustang's in my area. I call it "mustang huntin'" It was about 6:30 yesterday and I was just out driving around with my one buddy. It ws this red mustang and i was on my way home, and i got into the turning lane and sped past him, and then he got right on my ass behind me. Followed me, as I was flooring it, he couldnt keep up for shit. Got to the stop sign " i was like, alright this pussy wants to race" hung a right, and messed with him a little bit. Got to a red light and put my hand out the window like lets go. He reved his engine LOL it sounded like a 4 cyl. neon. And of course like anyone else I reved mine, although this was a single lane so we couldnt race yet. He followed me until we could get to an intersection to race. I was at the redlight, waiting for a good moment with no cars for both of us to go at it on opposite sides, but with me i pulled out a little to early and so i had to got on the right side and go slow just to wait for him. Here he comes flying by me, i get over in the lane throw it down in second and by the time i was at like 4000 rpm's in 3rd i was on his ass completely and there was no sign of him slowing up. Although, i couldnt get on the right side because the traffic was completely horrible. He had to slam on his brakes a few times, but I stayed on his ass completely. Although this one time i broke over into the right side and got right next to him when we were already going at it. I would have passed him but a rather big mack truck was infront of me so i had to slow down and get back over. Unfortunatly, like every race they eventually turn off. KInda mad because there was no chance to get around him. I saw the look on his face when i pulled up next to him, it was great.

I didn't think the NAs could beat GT stangs, not that I didn't try to race them lol.

I always thought the N/A's could beat Rustang GT's, those things are slow. My 1988 Formula 350 Firebird beat a 2000 Mustang GT from 0-100 mph ahead by a car length the whole time, shut it down after that. I've been "hunting" for a Mustang to race in my SL but I haven't seen any lately, once Spring hits they'll be on every corner though.

That's incorrect. A stock N/A Stealth for 3000GT will not beat a Mustang GT. They will easily walk a V6 Mustang, but not a V8. The "Rustang" GT, as you put it, is a HAIR slower than the notch we have, which is dead even with my VR4. I would suggest to the author either he ran into a V8 wannabee, or a V8 that played lightly.

well yes and no, the newer GTs are 14 second cars out of the box. but the older 4.6 GTs are beatable. I have seen many 3000GT VS. Mustang GT runs and they can go either way. just gotta know what your going up against. I believe him though, specially if it was an auto, those Stangs have horrid auto boxes. sweet run man, very sweet.

What year GT was it? Even with an auto, I would say a 99+ would beat an NA 3s. Previous to 99 though, this outcome would certainly make sense.

I raced a 2002 gt with my 99 sl and I got beat but it wasn't terrible...Like 3 car lengths MAYBE but still. I think it's possible to take a mustang gt but the guy i raced definitely was better with a stick than me cuz his launch was so clean...he launched almost as if it had awd but was able to keep it to just a chirp off the line, i was impressed. I still think mustang gts put too much torque down though for a stock vs stock win for a 3000gt...but a few decent enough mods and that na is gonna eat that stang...and vice versa. I wouldn't recommend showing your shit off to a gt unless u know u can beat him cuzz ur gonna look like a fool when he jumps off the line on u.

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth

he raced a V6, listen to his story again "it sound like a 4 cylinder neon"

V8's do not sound like neons

further more, a 99 gt is like racing a 1st gen vr4
low 14's high 13's in the 1320. thats a good second and some change ahead at the finish line.
and fox body's are nothing to play with either

I disagree. there's no way a NA 3000GT could take a stang GT from a stop. The fact is that the stang GT already has more power, but since he's got RWD, he'll take a FWD anyday from a stop. Of course his launch is much cleaner, he doesn't have to deal with traction issues that the FWD guys have. Of course, if you were running slicks on a FWD, then you MIGHT have a chance.

NO WAY. no way a NA 3000GT will 'eat that stang' from a stop. Even if the 3000GT has 'a few decent enough mods.' The RWD will take a FWD from a roll anyway. Also, the GT has more torque off the line. Unless you have something up your sleeve, have fun eating dust. A race from a roll MIGHT be a little different. Still he's got the torque AND hp on you. I've eaten V6 stangs all the time, there's no competition there. However, the V8 stang is clearly superior to the NA 3/S.

Just curious, what "few decent mods" would you recommend for the NA 3/S so that we could 'beat' the stang GT? I don't think there are any mods that would put us that much closer, but just curious as to what you were thinkin.

All in all, the VR4 is a good match for a GT. Not an NA.

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth

There is so much BS going on here, First off Jag1718 is a DOHC, he said 99SL. Also RWD has more drivetrain loss than a FWD. 94-98 Mustang GT's are DOGS. They are very beatable by even stock DOHC's. My SOHC has even hung with them telling you how slow they are. 99 GT's are a whole nother ballpark though. So basically 94-98 GT's=VERY beatable by a NA 3s. From a roll, from a stop it doesnt matter. 99+= Game for the TT's.

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth

One of my friends has a 2002 stang GT and he has whiped the crap out of quite a few 2000+ mustang GT's. When he went to the track he ran an amazing 14.6 best and many passes in the 15's. Lots of people cant launch a RWD correctly.

Re: Mustang GT vs Dodge Stealth

Yeah I was gonna say, where are you people getting these times, they're mid 14 to low 15 second cars (GT's) from what I know...unless its the Cobra (13's), they're DOGS as Stealthee said. I've raced against and driven them, and was never impressed. Now I don't know about the latest ones, but the 94-98 I say SL 5-speed vs GT 5-Speed, SL takes it to 100 mph. And btw the GT that I raced in my Formula was 99+ 5-Speed with intake and exhaust, and my SL is faster than my Formula (I think).
