Window and lock problems

I have an 88 XJ laredo with power windows/locks. None of the locks work and only two of the windows work. I'm not sure if its the motors or a wiring problem. I have no schematics to go by. Also, are the window buttons and the lock buttons interchangable.

Re: Window and lock problems

I've had a similar problem with my 93XJ. On my window/lock control unit in the driver's side door, all of the switches are interchangable except the window lockout switch. After I took mine apart, there are some metal plates that short all of the hot sides of the switch and all of the grounds of the switch, I noticed a few of them were coming apart. There is a spring clip inside of them so I clamped them down with a vise and used electrical tape to keep them together. Not sure how much a new on would cost, but it worked. Also I hear that the wires inside of the rubber boot joint the electrical wiring in the door and the cab are bad about breaking. I have a chart I made in excel that will help you out with your problem. Email me at [email protected] and I'll forward it to ya.

Re: Window and lock problems

Loose door control connections and or corrosion are most likely, a little lube for moving parts would not hurt.

Re: Window and lock problems

I recently pulled half my carpet out and traced down my own window woes. My problem was I could access the windows at the driver's door but not at the other doors. I found 2 yellow wires that allow you to roll down the windows at each door had been cut. One of these wires is hooked to the window lock/unlock switch in the drivers door. The other goes under the dash somewhere. To check if the window motors work, rig up a jumper wire hooked to the fuse box, run the wire to the window switches to give it some juice. But make sure you connect it to where the hot is supposed to go lest you ground yourself out!
