I need to end this arguement with a co-worker

I went over this with bumpinstang, but would like more input on it. My friend has 2 Kicker L7 12" subs with I THINK a total of 1000w or 1200w pushing them in a homebuilt ported enclosure in a Ford Explorer. I don't know how much he knows about tuning a ported box more or less building a box with the proper volume. He said something like a total of 6cf with two independent chambers (3cf each). He thinks his L7's will destroy the Brahma 15" on an eD NiNE.1 that I will have in a properly built ported enclosure. He claims he hit 143db with it, but his little competition they did with their meter was undoubtebly executed incorrectly (some car with cheap MTX's hit about 138 and burped to 149 and back down to 138; or so their meter told them).

I know he has some elaborate looking Panasonic HU and some EQ thing as well.

With technical information, video/text&paper proof, which would hit a higher db? I already know the Brahma will sound infinitely better.

The car I own is listed in my signature.

Re: I need to end this arguement with a co-worker

basically a ported brahma in an SQL setup fully powerd can do mid 140's without too much trouble. Now take in the fact that the mic he was using was probably not the new termlab sensor and realistically he's doin' high 130's if he's lucky. It's in an SUV and SUV's suck arse for bass there's just too much cabin area It's damn near like havin' the subs in a small room. You got a car on the other hand which is a lot better for SPL. Ohh yea a brahma 12 did a 142.8 in a snail shell.....that's an SQl enclosure. Now take in the fact that a 15 has almost double the cone area and were talkin an easy 3db gain...... and yes I know how to make t-lines..... I've made a lotta stuff play VERY loud in them and maintain good SQ (I had a tempest doin what I would guess to be the upper end of the 130's in one with only 280 watts). So will a B15 be louder.....you don't know most likely? Yea.

What makes you think that a car is better for spl??? Almost all of the top competitors in db drag use suv's or vans, hence the walls of subs.

Re: I need to end this arguement with a co-worker

that's because they can fit an assload of airspace in them

you take the same sub, put it in an suv instead of a car and you'll lose a few dB. But of course if you wall off that suv and fill it with 8 15's, it will annihilate that car with only 1-2 subs simply because it has so much displacement, not to mention walling it off makes it more like a hatchback than an suv which really helps.

They also have a lot more subs pushing the air in the large cabin spaces. This guy has 2 12"s. These competition setups you speak of have more subs and/or larger ones.
