Yea a high flow cat will definately cause you to fail emissions.

Re: i need help fast
I hate to burst all of your bubbles and theres no need to trash talk me, but i have a friend that works at a 15 minute smog place, and he passed a car with headers and straight piping with a super rice muffler. the piping and backpressure has absolutely nothing to do with what goes on in the actual combustion chamber. I have no reason to make this up. I failed smog with my stock piping, (had him fake it) and then when i went to resmog it 6 months later after putting on 2.5 in piping, hi flow cat, dc 4-1 headers, and a super rice muffler BzzzzZzzZzZZ.
When you got your smog test the guys should have told you what to do to get it to pass. Theres two types of testing places apparently you went to the test only. usually they will say oh you have too much co2 you need new sparkplugs. the main determinant on passing smog is how youre engine is running overall, no leaks! do a tune up and put new spark plugs in the day you go to the place. RESEARCH ' TIPS FOR PASSING SMOG ' youll see it has nothing to do with backpressure because they only test at low rpm's

Re: i need help fast
maybe thats how they do it where your from.. but im MA pressure does have a lot to do with passing. my civic has dual exhaust past the rear wheels and i brought it to my buddy who does the test and when he let it sit at idle, it read "exhaust dillution" (or exhaust leak) it uses the pressure in your pipe to determine if you have an exhaust leak, so obviously i would have about half of what i should, so he had to rev the crap outta my car to get it to pass.

federal EPA standards are set for a light duty vehicle with 100,000 miles or 10 yrs old at .31 for NMHC, 4.2 for CO, 0.6 for NOx, .10 for PM. A new vehicle coming off the assembly line today will not meet this EPA standard without a cat. keep in mind, individual states have the same or higher standards. The day I legitimately pass a obd vehicle running a straight pipe will be the day mankind finds a new fuel to replace gasoline. That day is not even close yet. Anyone can pass with a straight pipe if the price is right ![]() Quote:

Re: i need help fast
Put your stock cat back on if you still have it, take it to get smogged and after you pass, that is if you do, put your high flow one back on until next year or when ever you have to smog it again. Kind of a pain but it will let you drive your damn car.

my suggestion, change the PCV valve (cheep) and check your O2 sensor, if it’s bad it’s not so cheep but still not killer on the wallet
