98 Camry XLE heating/AC problem

Hi Everyone,

Just looking for some advice on how best to troubleshoot this problem. AC and heating work fine in terms of temp, however when I turn the selector to the far right windshield setting the AC light turns on regardless if the AC switch is on or off. I can still use the temprature setting to select heat or cold but I think the AC compressor kicks in throught the entire time the setting is turned to the windshield. All the other settings work as expected.

Any suggestions on how to go about approaching this problem, My only guess is that it might be a loose or bad connection behind the controlls.

One other area I also noticed a small problem (more like an annoying inconvienience )since we are on the topic is the when the rear window defrost is on the FM station reception drops by half, must be some kind of interference, so just wondering if anyone had a similar problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is normal. The a/c dries the air and defogs the windshield much faster than just the heater. Also, when raining outside and after the truck is started, the heater only will actually fog the windshield for some time. Using the a/c eliminates this problem.
