Block Id?

I pulled a number off an old engine sitting in a wood box inside a shed at a friends farm, and would like to know what this thing is? i can tell its a 4 bolt smallblock. it is all pulled apart and wraped in old newpapers from 1974. it has #3970010 at the top back. any help would be great. thanks

Re: Block Id?

thanks but im ok now. i have a binder full with thousands of small block casting numbers and application numbers. i just couldn't find it until late yesterday. i spent hours ripping my house apart to find it. by the way the engine is a 350 made between 1969-79. the 1968 327 had the same casting number but only on the 2 bolt mains.

Re: Block Id?

thats a pickup motor (if wrapped in 74')that came as a one or two bolt block configuration.it more than likley came with small valve heads (ie 333882's or such) and dish pistons.the more important information to identify the motor is behind where the alternator mounts,on the deck of the motor just in front of cylinder head no.2.if you post what numbers are in that spot,i could tell you the color of shirt the man wore when he pressed the block lol.(jk but not really)if its a t1027*** number,it may be a 70-73 chevelle or 75 nova engine, meaning collectable...
