Is retraining trans necessary?
I have a 92 Caravan 3.3L with the 4 speed auto trans. I didnt know until after the fact that when you unhook your battery that the trans computer has to be retrained.
My question is will it eventually retrain itself under normal driving conditions, or does it absolutely have to be taken somewhere and put through the retraining that I have read about? |

Re: Is retraining trans necessary?
It'll go through a re-learn mode so that it can regain its operating parameters. You may experience some rough shifts and delayed shifts, but that's normal, it won't take long for it to reprogram itself.

I'd vote for just drive it around like you normally would and it will figure it out. I was told once by a dealer that on a vehicle about the same vintage they had to "reprogram" the ECM when it was replaced. I new then I was getting the shaft.
