Alright, I just wanted to know this, because Transmissions aren't my specialty.
I plan on installing several performance items onto my D-series motor. Here's the list: 1 Unknown Brand 4-2-1 Header 1 Comp Cams D16 Cam shaft 1 AEM or Skunk2 Cam gear 1 Full Catback exhaust right now I have just intake and exhaust, but I plan on installing all of this before spring. Most of which is on it's way to me right now, just need the cam gear. So my question is, will I need to upgrade my clutch and flywheel to handle the performance upgrades. I'm currently looking at a Stage 1 clutch and lightened flywheel. But I was wondering how much the stock clutch could handle? Thanks, I know that I can always count on the information you guys leave for me. Thanks again. late... |

Re: Performance upgrades...new clutch needed?
need no but nice yes
I only had an intake and i did clutch and flywheel the change is great i found *my clutch was dead but i did upgrade not replace* those bolt ons make like no extra power and your stock clutch will hold up fine. |

Re: Performance upgrades...new clutch needed?
you won't actually 'need' a higher performance clutch unless you do some real work, headers and cams dont really add much noticeable power on a d series. stage one at the most. i just like having a stiff clutch, thats the only reason i use one. you could have a turbo and still use an oem clutch as long as its fairly new.
so, no you dont really need one, you should wait until you get a lightweight flywheel and good pressure plate to take off your tranny, and then install it all together.
