2000 Tracker - Accessory Drive Squeals
Our 2000 Tracker with 40,000 miles has developed a high pitched squeal in the front accessory drive area, especially when cold. Removing the belt removes the noise, so I know it's part of the accessory drive system. I've heard that GM has or had a recall on idler pulleys or the tensionor. Has anyone had this type of problem, and could you get GM to fix it? Thanks.

Re: 2000 Tracker - Accessory Drive Squeals
Just to let you know, I found there is a service bulletin on 1999 - 2003 Trackers, saying that the power steering pump is sometimes misaligned from the factory, causing belt squeal. The bulletin says to reposition the pump rearward to align the pulley correctly. After doing so, about a 1 hour job, no more belt squeal. Check with Chevy if yours is doing the same.

No recall, just a service bulletin that the Chevy dealers have. It's an easy fix, and it's been working well.
