Angry Dash Lights/Ignition Switch

Hello everyone. I hope somebody can help me. I have an 02 Pontiac Grand Am. Just recently I have been having what I thought to be electrical problems. When I started the car, SOMETIMES, some of the lights would stay on. If I shut the car off and restarted it, they would go off. When I hit a bump the ABS, Service Engine Soon and Trac Off lights would come on. On Christmas Eve I was stranded at a pizza shop. When I got in my car at home, the lights all stayed on. So I shut the car off, like usual and tried to restart. It wouldn't start. When I finally got the car started, all of the dash lights stayed on. Once I was driving down the road, I realized that none of the guages were working. When I got to the pizza shop, I turned they car off (habit) and it would not restart. All of the dash lights stayed on, the radio stayed on and my remote would not work the locks or the trunk. My husband came and pulled the fuse while we waited for the tow truck so that the battery wouldn't run down, and all the lights went off and I was able to start the car. I took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and to bring it back if it did it again. We did find that the lights coming on going over a bump was a wheel bearing speed sensor that wasn't plugged in. Happened again, and the dealer wasn't open, so I took it to a friend who put it on the computer and gave me a printout of ABS History codes. Called the dealer, can't find anything. Happened again this morning and I took it to the dealer and they are telling me it's the ignition switch. Anyone with any problems like this?

Re: Dash Lights/Ignition Switch

Check the ground wires and battery cable terminals and make sure they are tight.

There was some thread in here about their vehicle where check engine light, abs, etc would come on for no reason. It turned out to be a failing alternator. Just make sure your alternator is fine and have it tested FREE at autozone if you are not sure.
