Remanufactured Engine?

Is purchasing a remanufactured engine safe/worth it? I saw a remanufactured MAZDA 2.0 L 1998 4 cyl FE/T 626 Turbo for about 1600 bucks. Is that engine the same as the FE3 you guys have mentioned and would it be worth my time to consider getting it to upgrade my 2.0L 4 cyl stock?

Re: Remanufactured Engine?

the fe3 was only turbocharged for a rally team and the 88-91 limited 626 capella awd turbo.
remanufactured engines are they best way to get these engines most of the time they come with a warranty.
it could be possible that this engine is the fe3t however the price is suspicious these engines usually go for a few hundred more than 1600 bucks. so ask a few questions before you buy ask what the part number is it should be #fe3n ask how many cams it has the answer should be twincam or DOHC.
of course the most important question should be the year of the engine and if its a twincam. the year has to be any 88-91 626.

I thought FE3's were in Mazda 626's between 1987 and 1992? I've found a 1987 Mazda 626 2.0L, 1998 cc, Turbo, SOHC, FWD, Belt driven cam, 6 bolt front crank gear fuel injection engine. When I called the company to see if it was a FE3, they confirmed it. I asked if it was a DOHC, but they said it was a SOHC. I thought Fe3's were DOHC, but the guy told me no, they're SOHC... ???

*confused*

Re: Remanufactured Engine?

if its a sohc then its not an fe3. the capella 626 is the mazda 626 also known as mazda mx6. I dont know who's company you are going through but they are wrong thye may be trying to sell you an fe2. one of the most important features of the fe3 is the dohc.
your best bet is going first learning all you can about the fe3 before you buy one.
also ask this company what is stamped on the head on the left hand side, it should be FE3N.
