which type of impreza should I get?
I decided to get an impreaza 2.5 RS. But I have not decided yet whether
I get a sedan or wagon. The sedan is lighter and wider. The wagon is taller and more practical. what is the best choice for about 20K sports car? Is the wagon exatly sporty as the sedan? |

Re: which type of impreza should I get?
The wagon and sedan are the same width, they just have different body panels which give the impression of different widths.
The wagon is as sporty as the sedan, has an extra 300lbs behind the rear axle which stabilises the rear slightly thereby improving the handling. For $20,000 you can get more with a wagon than with the sedan.

Re: which type of impreza should I get?
Actually, the sedan is indeed wider. The fender flares make the body wider by a tiny bit, which also means the sedan can fit slightly wider tires under it. I think the wheelbase is the same width, though. I have a wagon and I love it, plus I can fit all my random crap in the wagon. The wagon also gets the stupid face from people it beats at the track; you know the one: "That WAGON just turned in that kind of time?!?"
Pluses for the wagon: -more cargo room (a lot more) -roof-mounted luggage/bicycles/whatever -no boy-racer stereotype -nearly identical performance for less money -sleeper car (and, if you have the seats folded down, you could sleep in it, too) Minuses for the wagon: -less of a chick-magnet than the sedan (but still has chick-magnet powers) -slightly smaller rear swaybar -exterior dress-ups are more expensive and harder to find -half-inch tire width tolerance difference from sedan (in most cases)

Re: which type of impreza should I get?
IMO the 2004 wagon looks a lot worse than the sedan. I like the 02-03 wagon a lot, but the latest one just looks like an Elantra or something. I think they need to flare the fenders a bit.

Re: which type of impreza should I get?
Edit to my previous post: turns out that the wagon track width is indeed narrower, as is the body.

Re: which type of impreza should I get?
Also, wagons with flared fenders look kinda stupid. Many people have taken the sedan fenders and stuck them on the wagon; it doesn't look good. Some have even had custom-made rear fender flares. So, while the flares look cool on the sedan, I'm glad they didn't try to put them on the wagon.
