Question Metro will lurch, lope, surge, cutout on driving

I have a 97 GEO Metro w/ 57.000 k on it LSI automatic. I've only had it for 4 mos, paid very little for it because the windsheild was smashed ($850) But here's the prob: When driving sometimes will lurch, lope, surge, cut out, in that order, then all will be fine the next day. Or even later the same day. It'll start back up fine, but won't go. But later it will. I've read this entire board, and other people have has this ? but there was no answer, so I'm trying again. Shop has got it now, of course it did not act up for them! It's done it 3 times now, we are in winter now, so initially I threw some heat in it, but still doing it. Any thoughts? (I've read throttle sensor and timing could be..)

if it turns out to be the computer i have one out of a 97 that had a 1.3 engine and automatic. you might also have shop check out the fuel pump. i had a 94 that did kinda what your describing and finally traced it to the fuel pump

Probably either the cam postition sensor or the crank postition sensor. If those give bad readings, your ignition timing will be off the map.
