Tinny Sound ?

Hi, i bought an 89 1.9 GTI last week. Its had some head work, a kn induction kit, and a mongoose exhaust system. From the back the exhaust is the normal throaty burbble, but from the front, the engine sounds what i can only describe as tinny.

Being my firts pug im unsure if this is normal, ive heard they do sound tinny with stainless systems ? Is that true.
Im a mechanic, so i serviced it, and checked it over, nothing i can find to cause any noise like this.

Also , what the genral opinon on induction kits ? As i was thinking of going back to the original box with an performance element.

Personally i think peugeot's always sound a bit tinny but it could be more, as for inductin kits im a fan of k&n so my opinion is to stick with it
