Question Question ? (o/d off light) on all the time

My friend just baught a windstar 2001- the (o/d off) light is on at all times not blinking. Is this bad or good. every refrence i have read about has talked about a blinking light so sorry if this is a repeat.

I think it just means that the o/d is switched off. I assume that the switch is not turning it on. I don't know the 01 set-up but on my 99 the button is on the end of gearshift lever and is a momentary pushbutton. Perahsp your switch is defective or there is a break in the wire somewhere and it just happened to break in the off mode.

You may have something more serious but check the simple things first.

Never heard of this since the computer resets the O/D back on when you restart the van, you wouldn't need to press the switch. But maybe a bad switch can override that reset. Is it off at all when the van is started?
