Angry vibration between 55-65km/h on 1997 Caravan

I have a pulsing vibration that presents between 55-65km/h as I accelerate and decellerate. Have had recent rebuild to transmission and torque converter. Don't know if this is related. No other work done. Could it be tires? Any suggestions to help. Going crazy!!

Re: vibration between 55-65km/h on 1997 Caravan

It probably is the fact that either the CV joints are worn or the alignment of the cv axles is off. With Chrysler front-wheel drive vehicles, especially with the 3.0 liter V6, if a drive axle is misaligned due to improper mounting of motor/transmission mounts, it will affect the driveline angle and cause a vibration.

55-65 km/hr would be 35-40 mph, and that is a range that many caravan owners have felt a vibration in due to a torque converter lock-up problem with certain transmissions. The problem and fix are here:

Thanks for your reply - I am seeing the Chrysler dealer tomorrow. Will mention your suggestion and see if this cuts down on my "diagnostic" bill.

I've been to Chrysler dealer and had the transmission fluid changed and the transmission controller updated and it has had no affect. They also swapped front axles and this had no effect. Now Chrysler is mystified. Gave me the van back and asked me to give them a few days to research any other solutions. Any suggestions on torque converter? Thanks again...Anita

Went to Chrysler repair shop and they swapped front axles with no effect. Then they put Type III fluid in as there was a dextron fluid in and updated transmission controller. Told me that would fix it - but guess what - not fixed. Now they are stumped...frustrating. Any other suggestions? Anita

Went to Chrylser direct and they swapped front axles, changed transmission fluid to a Type III and updated transmission controller. Still no effect on shuddering between 50-60km. Any other suggestions? Thanks...Anita

The only other feasable solution is that your wheel bearings are so badly worn out; other than that, I don't have many more options.

I just realized that no one has answered your original question - yes, it could be tires.

Thanks...went to tire shop and they rotated and balanced my virtually new tires and it has had no effect. Transmission shop once again does not think it's transmission. Everyone else is unsure. I have appointment with a "good mechanic" on thursday to check it out. All he'll say after road test is "boy that's annoying". Thanks again for your help...Anita

Thanks...have ruled out tires today with an inspection, rotation and balancing. Transmission shop doesn't know what to think. I'm off to see a "good mechanic" on thursday. He says he's got a few ideas. Thanks again...Anita

Re: vibration between 55-65km/h on 1997 Caravan

When you say they swapped the fluid to a type III, do you mean Dexron III or Mopar ATF + 3? There is a huge difference between the 2, and the wrong fluid can cause lots of tranny problems, including torque converter shudder.
