Codes in 97 Lesabre

I know in some of the early 90's model GMs you could pull any codes from the computer simply shorting two pins on the plug under the steering wheel. My question is can you do this on a 97 model Lesabre. I have a "Check Engine" light on solid.

I also have problems with the torque converter at times not locking or not staying locked. It will lock and then when driving on level road at 65mph it will unlock and not lock again for 8-10 miles. Any Ideas????

Thanks

Codes in 97 Lesabre

according to my repair manual '97 and newer lesabre's require a code reader. you can no longer short between terminals to read codes.
