Talon won't idle
I have a 93 talon es 2.2 with 5 speed manual trans no turbo. The problem I am having is it will not idle, it will get down to idle speed but you have to use the pedal any ideas as far as what is happening?

Re: Talon won't idle
there isn't one single talon ever made that has a 2.2 in it so i don't know where you came up with that, if it's a 93 non-turbo then it's a 2.0, unless someone did a weird ass swap (not likely). as for your idle, check your BISS and the TPS and stuff around or on your intake manifold. Also check all vacuum lines to make sure they aren't disconnected or broke.

Re: Talon won't idle
Would it be possible to bore a 2.0 out to a 2.2? If you did the motor would be running pretty ragged. I know you can punch them out to 2.1. Its possible thats what he's talking about. Either that or he's just mistaken.
MAS being unhooked causes that problem, check that first. Then TPS.

Re: Talon won't idle
Doing some very rough math, but even at 060 over I'm only getting like 2.05. Boring does very little since we have such a small bore. On a larger bore the same 020 over would give a lot more area, and therefor a lot more displacement. Thats why the best way to increase displament is in the stroke.
On a 1g, TPS wont affect idle either since the ECU uses a seperate throttle closed switch. On a 2g however it is incorporated into the TPS (thats why it has 4 pins instead of 3), and it will affect idle. The ECU will not go into closed loop idle control unless it see the throttle closed signal. I would test the switch, it stands vertically on the back of the throttle body. Shit, I'm assuming a turbo car again, but NT may be similar. I would bother adjusting the BISS unless you have some way to keep the ISC at the center of its travel (scan tool). Otherwise you might make it worse. At the least, count how much you turn it so you can put it back if needed. Could also be dirty TB, banjaxed ISC motor, unplugged ISC, etc.

Re: Talon won't idle
I've got my block bored 0.5mm (0.02") and got unbelievable results. Haven't dyno'ed her yet, but have taken out stock turbo dsm's and 3g's.

Re: Talon won't idle
Just did the math. .5mm is a 1.2 percent increase in displacement. Airflow is directly proportional to displacement increase (assuming to increase in puping loss, aka decrease in VE), and power is directly proportional to airflow all things remaining equal. If you were at 150 HP for example, you would now be at 151.8. If you are taking out 200+ HP stock turbo DSMs and 3Gs, its not because of the extra .5mm bore
![]() In contrast, stroking a 2 liter gives you a 20% increase in displacement, with the appropriate over bore. Thats something you can use. ![]() Not trying to say anything here, just tossing out some quick numbers.
