Question headers

I have an 98 suburban 4x4 with a 350. I want to put some headers on it. I don't know what type of headers I need. There are some that say with air injection and without. I don't know which one I need? Also which maker is the best? I know what your first questions are going to be. "what are you looking for, horse power, torque, etc?" I would like over all performance out of a set of headers.

Lightbulb Headers

Most likely you have a vortec. I can definately(sp) say you get what you pay for. When you put headers, It tends to raise the exhaust temp a little and create a little more moisture in the mufflers, pipes etc.. A ceramic coated header system seems to curtail this problem. Some people only get headers and not the Y-pipe or cross over(equalization type pipe) or the rest of the system. It would be benifical to by a complete system from a name brand because of the fit between the parts and the mounting of the system.... There isn't anything worse than rattles and hums and loud reverb throughout the vehicle.....hope this helps......paul

Re: headers

PS... there is a tube that runs along the top of the exhaust manifold if you have air injection....

Consumer22....thanks for the info. I do have a couple of questions about the Gibson Headers....have you noticed a difference in performance or gas mileage? Also would you happen to have a part number for those headers?

headers

Definitely a performance increase. I have tried a bunch of things and the headers and the msd 6a ignition with coil were the best bang for the buck. I bought them from Summit racing but I am sure you can get them from anywhere. I went to the website and the part number is gp102s. You may want to check on the number before you order. I also used stage 8 locking header bolts. They are sort of pricey but they won't back out which I think is nice. Hope this helps.

Re: headers

So have you noticed a drop in milage per gallon or increase. I know that everyone drives different and lifts affect everything.

Consumer...since you are using the Gibson headers, is the rest of your set up stock or aftermarket? Have you had to replace your O2 sensors yet?

Re: headers

Cool I have been looking into doing some exhaust work on the truck. I have put a flowmaster dual exhuast on the truck. I would like to do a complete system upgrade from the headers back I don't know if they make the cats part for the burb. All I ever see is the headers and the mufflers but nothing inbetween unless you buy a complete system from like Banks.
