Question 1998 ford contour fwd/Transmission trouble/Help!!!!

I have a contour that the transmission only works after the car has been
shut off for a minute or two. Then you start it and it seems like it won't
move at all then it goes into gear. It will go for 100 feet or more then it's
done. It acts like it's in neutral. Shut it off and wait 1 or 2 minute's then it might go again. If not shut it off again and it will go again. This won't work in reverse. Only in drive. Reverse don't work at all. I can go around the block, but it takes me about three or four times of shutting it off and starting it up again. when it does work it takes off like it's just fine. Then no tranny again. ??????? TCC Solenoid??? Clogged filter??? Clogged screen???
Thanks,
Glenn

Re: 1998 ford contour/transmission

Glenn,

What happen to your previous posts? It looks like it was deleted.

Anyway, when you say it will go for 100 feet or more then it's done, does it mean that the transmission loses power and the vehicle just slows down but the engine is still running fine or the engine dies too?

Does the engine have a good IDLE if you just let the engine run at IDLE?
