Tibby Plays with a Hemi

Ok. This wasnt a true race. Just having some fun.

Ok so tonight my friend who drives an '04 Tiburon GT (v6 152whp) raced another friend of mine in an '04 or '05 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7l Hemi (345bhp).

I was in the tiburon because i hadnt riden in it yet to see how fast it was. we pull out of the parking lot and down onto a 4 lane road. we are i the "fast" lane and he follows us out into the left hand lane. When he gets between the back bumper and mid section of the car the Tibby guns it. in 1st from like a 25-30mph roll.

He immediatly jumps on the Hemi untill he realizes he has gunned it and puts it to the floor. The Hemi is creaping up on the tiburon. The tib cuts it at 65mph (no traffic really, i dont know why) he lets off and the hemi passes us doing about 70.

He slows back down and im like in the passinger seat. He didnt really win but it was faster than i thought it would be. they go for it agian. this time from 30-40 i beleive. He has a s/n on here and will ifnd it soon enough to fill in all of the gear and RPM specs. i had my head out the window most of the time.

The second time they where about even and i was going to tell him (the guy who was driving the tibby i was riding in) to honk 3 then gun it but the Hemi Driver guns it as soon as they line. He was in 4th i beleive and didnt stand a chance. the Hemi puts about 4 lengths on the tibby and shuts down . he pulls off and turns around.

Not a "race" but some good playing around. i want to see these to go at it seriously from a stop instead of a roll. The tib is sapposed to get exaust this weekend and intake soon so... I say they should race for pink slips. i will try to steal my dads video camera and tape this if it does go down seriously from a stop. it will be a pretty decent race actually. 172bhp+5speed+3100lbs Vs. 345bhp+Auto+4900lbs. We may even get the 4cyl Tib with alot of driving experence Vs. the new 6 cyl tib with Mediocure driving experece (with a manual). Then maybe i will grab my moms Frontier and we will get the Honda Accourd 4 door and we will have a 5 car line up.

Yeah those hemis are quick...I raced an '04 with custom ram-air intake and a side-exit catless flowmaster exhaust, and we were dead even from a dig up to 85...then he shut down because I was starting to pull on him .

the tibs only have 156 hp? Damn I thought they had more than that

Weird...I never had any problem beating 5.3L GMC products....what do those things have stock, like 255 hp? In other words, 90 hp down on the hemis? I dunno...

notive that he said WHEEL horsepower. 152w hp. anyway, that would be a sweet group race. i look forward to seeing the video.

I didn't know the Hemi trucks were that fast. I especially didn't think they would run a 2k Maxima, which my dad owns one, so I know what they'll do. Wow, pretty impressive for a truck. Nice run with the Tib btw.

my friend that has an evo last night was tellin me that he seen a car just like mine run against a tib GT manuel and the maxima only won by a car, they were both stock.
they run mid 15s? i think and i heard intake and exhaust gives huge gains
(more than on other cars) so if he just added that he should kill the hemi.
the hemi trucks also run mid 15s? am i right? they are about even with a titan althought the titan at my school supposibly beat the hemi.
it was from a 35 mph roll and the hemi has 24s.

what are you talking about the HEMI is 5.7L with 350 hp....and i was the tib driver that fryman is talking about. and the HEMI runs a high 14, but not really sure .

Hemis are all over the 15s in the 1/4. They can range, stock, anywhere from a low 15 to a high 15. Trust me, I've had my share of fun runs with them. Actually, its just fun for me. Those guys really get down on themselves when I tell them I only have a "few" bolt ons. Hey, you just have to mess with these guys every once in a while. They're not bad for stock trucks, and they take to simple bolt ons really well. It's really sad the aftermarket isn't that great for them, or alot of cars and trucks would be in trouble. If they had a decent tune setup, they could be real beast. There are several guys spraying them into the 12s, but like I said, the tuning really keeps them from getting overly aggresive on the bottle. BOOM!

You and me both, I nearly pissed my pants when he was a carlength up on me by 30 mph...to be fair, he did have a couple of a bolt-ons(including a side-exhaust that made me temporarily deaf in my left ear for the length of the race, lol), but then again my car isn't the fastest thing in the world, I was probably down some 110-120 hp to that hemi if you factor in both of our mods.

nah they have more than that...the older 5.7 vortech had 255. the 5.3's i think range from 290-300 hp.

i saw a dyno sheet for one before 260 whp! those dodge trannys suck up that horsepower.

Well that's great, but nowhere on this thread did I say a ram hemi made 345 hp at the wheels, I dunno where that came from.
