You got a stick correct? A 04 C5 has 350 horsepower...an auto can get to 60 in about 5 seconds...If you have a stick, I think you could take him...

Re: hot ls1 on ls1 action

if your car is bone stock, you only have a chance if your launch is perfect and your shifts are perfect and she sucks at driving. if you've got some mods, and you're a decent driver, you should be able to take on the vette.

Last time I was at the track, I ran a C5. I have no idea what it had done, if anything, but it went 12.9 to my 12.74. I trapped at 106, and he was pulling on me, so his trap was definately higher. It helped that I cut a 1.89 60ft. You better bring your A-game if he's a decent driver, because those little suckers can roll on. Also, keep the race around a 1/4. If my race with one would have been on the street he would have rolled by me alittle over the 1/4 mark. Of course, the car I ran could have had a goodie or two, but just watch out for it.

What tires are you running? I assume traction is an issue with those gears? This race will be won at the line and definately by the first 300ft.

Re: hot ls1 on ls1 action

Just running the 1/4???

Or running from a roll??

I do believe if that Vette is stock, it should be a VERY close race.

And that note, I ran doors with a Z06 once. He had exhaust done, and I was right before the cam install.

A stock C5 and a stock F-Body make for a decent race. Normally the Vette pulls out the win thanks to being 350-400 pounds lighter. Both cars put down about the same on the dyno when stock.

Good luck, get some video!!!!!

Re: hot ls1 on ls1 action

As long as you're calm and don't get all nervous and fuck up..you should either win or lose respectably. If you lose, pretend like you saw it coming. If you win, don't be a dick..because you'll probably win by a hair. If you win...don't be like "yeah, I spank corvettes all day....I knew I was going to win." No one likes an asshole. Just letting you know..if I was driving your car...I personally would be very confident in taking a corvette. So, you should be pretty confident too. Expect him to pull ahead..you're not going to walk him. Depending on the launch..you'll most likely run head to head...but when you're in your top gear. That's when I think you'll pull away. Good luck!!!!!!!

Re: hot ls1 on ls1 action

Oh yeah...sorry to double post...but when I said top gear I don't mean 6th...I mean 4th. Or 3rd, depending on what you finish the 1/4 in.

Judging by your 1/8mi. ET and trap you'll definitely take him in the 1/4. If you run him from a roll, you will pull on him initially but he will eventually overtake you. Probably at the 120mph mark. Good Luck.

Like I said, this race will be won at the line. You've got a standard and a killer low end gear ratio on street tires. You just can't get too aggresive at the line or you'll smoke them up at the line and you won't be able to make up the difference at the other end. You have the mods to be in the 12s, judging from your 1/8 time and trap. For comparison, in my 12.67 run, my 1/8th was [email protected]. The gears might hurt you against the vette after a 1/4, so try to keep it in that range. Alot of LS1 guys will try to set me up on a LONG 1/4, so they can use the trap speed to take me up top, since my trap speed is only around where a stock ls1 is. It doesn't take a stock LS1 long after the 1/4 to blow by me, due to the unreal topend and being that a truck is shaped like a damn brick.
Just don't think about racing "a vette" at the line and get too excited, and you will take him in a quarter. Good luck!

Re: hot ls1 on ls1 action

thanks for the feedback everyone, i will defintely get pics, and i will try on video, but yea yall are right it easy to put them tires up in smoke with the 410's, she'll pull a mean 4th gear scratch. I definelty recommend gears for you ls1 guys who are looking for a 400-500 dollar mod that will make your car alot quicker
