i no this is a supra form and all but would an MKIII be a good car as a first if i have like 6k....and if it is or isnt what else would be a reasonable car to buy for about 6 k?

As for a first car as in your 16 or 17 and just starting to drive. I would say no depending on if it's a turbo car. Being steriotypical, if you are that age and want a supra turbo, your going to race it and most likely ethier get seriously hurt or perhaps killed. Granted I can't tell you wether your responcible or not and I can't tell you that you can't drive but if your intentions are to take the car, haul ass and race on the streets, I'd say no. On the maintenance side of it, I don't see a problem, if your going to do your own work, do your research and have some help if needed. Other than that, I'd say go for it if you really think you can handle the temptation.

P.S. As for an alternate car, I would say a good running civic, integra, etc. for the money and reliability without a high maintenance bill. Good luck.

i would say go for it and dont look back. i am 16 just about 17 and my first car was an 86.5 supra and i love the thing to death even though its not much to look at these cars are fun as hell and you will not regret it trust me. as for anyone who says that it is too much power and you will hurt yourself or w/e dont listen to them if it is what you truly want do it you will have the time of your life in that car

I got my first supra when i was 14, spent two years building it to greatness. 26 days after i got my liscence i got hit by a red light runner. They are great starting cars, but only get one if your willing to take care of it, theyre starting to get old and need alot of attention.

Get the supra but not the turbo supra. If u wanna go turbo buy a car that has a turbo already in it but not as fast as a supra. ex: Mr2 T, Eclipse gst-x, wrx, etc. 260+ hp is not good for a 16-17 year old.

i disagree, 260 hp may be too much for some 16-17 year olds that cant or dont know how to control it but not fot all

We are not talking about an 11 second car here...A 232 hp boat that runs 15s stock-that is not deadly fast. I have had lots of sportscars and the Supras I have owned have been very good cars. Easy to find parts for and work on, plus there will always be someone local that is familiar with them. The car has lots of pluses...handles nicely, moderate power, has plenty of room, can take it on long drives without getting beat up, and is good for lots of miles providing you don't run it low on oil or blow the headgasket. I would highly recommend an MK3 Supra as a first car.

just get an old school beater, something that you wont have to worry about for now, and learn to take care of it, learn the engine, learn how things work, start changing your own oil, spark plugs, checking brakes, and changing pads, etc... keep that beater for like a year or so and see how you do, primer it if it needs it, work on the body if you want, take it to macco get it painted and sell it, if you can pass that year without rolling it or getting like 20 tickets because everytime you drive your friends they want you to do donuts...

Dont buy something because you think its "cool" specially for your first care, because you will think its super cool and then you might start showing off and thats how you might lose the car, like i said get a beater and make "cool" out of it.

i dont know how your parents are, but prove to them that you can be responsible and take care of a regular car, and prove to yourself that you can as well, lean to drive good and not get any tickets. Its up to you, but im telling you if you get a supra with some power then you will want to smash it around, do donuts or whatever...

supras are ment to be earned not just sold to anyone who just wants one

Look man i have an 89 supra it has 238 stock handles very nicely with the tems electronic suspenshion i love it im currently looking for a bodykit need help but moving on 6k you will find a nice supra up 2 1992 then if u decide you dont like it go for a 240sx by the way the suspenshion has saved me a couple times lol

im going to agree with both parties here. with the amount of p-platers killing themselves on the road, the types of cars they drive needs to be looked at. most of the time its driving a car past its limits. e.g a civic was designed to go round corners fast. supras on the other hand - were. im 18 and i bought myself a 1988 supra 3000GT Turbo A about mid last year. i love it to bit and i dont drive it stupidly. id be lying if i said i hadnt givin it a squirt though. ive owned it for less than a year and already ive had to replace the clutch, all the tyres, brake rotors pads and calipers, altenator, power steering rack, battery, spark plugs, radiator, thermostate, and most recently the head gasket blew. i replaced it with a 1mm HKS gasket as well as new ARP head studs to make sure it doesnt happen again. i'll be running 12 psi when i get it back (hopefully tomorrow). in total ive spent a lot of money. but its still the best thing ever. i luv it. please dont let this deter u as ive just been a little unlucky. SUPRAS ROCK!!!

I would have to agree... Be mature about your decision and plan ahead. Figure out the reponsibilities and make sure you can get this car and respect it. If you decide to get a supra as your first car, then congrats and best of luck to you. If not, then I understand. I had the chance to buy up my friends 300 hp+ Mustang, however, I admit, I didn't know anything about cars a year ago. I bought my first car (1993 Ford Probe) and have learned so much about cars since. I'm used to doing work (ie: checking plugs, changing oil, basic maintenance, etc) on my parents cars, but to actually own your own is a great responsibility. I pay my own insurance, which is in MY own name, and not shared with my parents. I purchased my car full cash, and have had to dump a lot to build it up to the reliable "power house" it is now. I personally feel that you DON'T need more than 135 hp to get where your going within speed limits. I know this is a huge lecture, prolly mostly repeats. Just understand (I'm 18 btw :P) that there is ALOT of responsibility for a car. You'll definately appreciate it more if you bust your @$$ off and pay for it all on your own. I know if I had that stang as my first car, it would so not be running today :P As for driving, I've been in local (legal) racing organizations and such and I know my driving capabilities. The key is to grow your driving experience without jeapordizing it. But good luck, and may the best work out for you!

Oh yeah... and um, those "rally" kills on the highway.. yeah.. I know.. I'm a bad bad boy Oh well, That's why there are things called governers, and my car has one :P Not only that, I try to race more during the night or early mornings when traffic is at its slowest and cops aren't around. Been driving for 3 years, and not a ticket or scratch on any car ^_^ mmm hmmm ^_^ BUT I'M NOT SAYING that its okay to race on public roads under certain conditions... aye me!

For 6K, go for it. I don't know your driving history, but its a good starter. It makes some power, but most of it is offset by weight. Get a turbo model, have some fun. You should have enough left over for some rims, or a nice stereo. All I would ask is if you race DO IT ON THE TRACK. Most drag strips are open on Friday and Saturday nights. Entry fees are usually around $20. If you are a road race guy join the SCCA. Agian cheap and safe. There are usually guys at raceways that can teach you how to drive. Racing is fun, but way too dangerous on the streets. I used to do it. I destroyed 3 cars between the ages of 16 to 18. Including my first which was a 13sec VW Bug. I was lucky enough to walk away from all 3 wrecks. Oh yeah by the way seat belts work wonders. Cars are too expensive to keep wrecking them on the street. I had to work at junk yards so I could pull a car out of the lott and earn the parts to get them running. So to repeat TAKE IT TO THE TRACK. It jsut isn't worht it.
