Angry 4WD Indicator Light Problem. Help!

I have a 2004 Xterra XE with 4WD. I've been using the 4WD extensively the past week since there has been a lot of snow in New Hampshire. Yesterday I tried to disengage the 4WD from 4Hi to 2Hi, and the green indicator light went dim after I backed up like normal. Im used to the indicator light simply shutting off completely after Im back in 2WD. Has anyone had this where the light goes from bright green to a dim green. Is this a problem and should I take the car in? Im pretty sure that the car is in 2WD after I push the lever forward, because it acts like its in 2WD, but the light only dims and does not shut off.

Please help! Thanks in advance.

4X4 indicator light

This has happened to me a few times...the light goes off eventually and just seems to be an annoyance. I have never taken it back to the dealor and, quite frankly, wouldn't bother....

just my opinion....

Re: 4WD Indicator Light Problem. Help!

Not a cause for concern. You've probably got some road crud/slush on the sensor that activates the light. Either way, the electrical/sensor portion is completely separate from the actual mechanical 2WD/4WD mechanism. If you've moved the lever to 2Hi, the system will disengage, though not necessarily right away (you sometimes have to coast off-throttle to take the load off the driveline and let things disengage), definitely if you back up.
