Did you guys notice this. (about the full throttle iroc's)

i didnt notice this til i watched it again last night. did anyone notice the stripes on the red car? it was striped like a 85-87 iroc. the ground effect emblems said Z28 instead of IROC-Z. the white one was striped like a 88.
Now heres what im thinking, could it have been that they got a 305 in that red iroc. i know alot of irocs came with the 305 tpi from 85-87 instead of a 350 cause the corvette had the rights to the 350 TPI's during those model years. then in 88-90 they put 350s in the irocs.
some 305's too. but im thinking they either messed up and got a 87 with a 305 tpi or it was a real 88 with a 350 but had been repainted and who ever re-striped the car didnt put the acurate year iroc gfx emblems on and didnt put the iroc-z decal in there right places. that may have been what it was but the decals and the emblems made me think twice.

Re: Did you guys notice this. (about the full throttle iroc's)

I have a 350 TPI motor from an 87 IROC sitting in my garage. It has the old style belt setup, unlike the 88+ which had the serpentine....

Re: Did you guys notice this. (about the full throttle iroc's)

see i saw this show on the camaro's a while back when they started on the tpi irocs they said that the only tpi engine offered from 85-87 was a 305.
also they said the iroc decal from 85-87 was towards the front side of the doors. then in 88 they started dropping in 350's and changed the iroc decals from the front side of the doors back to the rear part of the doors.

Re: Did you guys notice this. (about the full throttle iroc's)

well i just checked a web site out that said that a 350 was an option in 87. even if the car was a 350, it still wasnt a 88 model or was a 88 and just wasnt striped right after a paint job or new decals

They started using 350's in the 86' Irocs (only 50 produced) and by 87 it was an available option

Don't trust the "shows" you see on Camaro's, Trucks, etc on TV or wherever. Many times they have flunkies doing fact checking for them...and they get it wrong a LOT. As far as badging goes, you need to check factory cars, as some people will mix and match parts (don't we all....) from different year cars. They may "look" a certain way, but by no means does it reflect factory offerings. If you want a VERY good source on Camaro's and what was available when and how...get the Camaro White Book. It has EVERY thing you would want to know about them....

Those cars were test beds for the later IROC's and were sent to the crusher at the end of testing. There were no 1986 350 IROC's or T/A's avialable for sale from the factory.

Re: Did you guys notice this. (about the full throttle iroc's)

I would say that making sure the car was a 350 would be pretty easy, cuz it would be designated by the VIN number. I think that the things we all listed before as the unknowns would be the gears, boost, and posi vs. open rear ends. You could always email the show and ask. You can find the website on the history channel.
