Help.

Okay, '93 Grand Am not starting. I'm not with my boyfriend, he's stranded at wal-mart. He said it won't start AT ALL, but that the lights still work, as well as the chime for the seatbelt. He checked the battery connections, and they are tight. I'm thinking alternator. Might I actually be thinking right???

Wink

Could Still Be Battery, Might Not Have Enough Amps To Turn Starter Over.

Re: Help.

It's the battery. It has just enough power to light up the stuff, but not enough to turn over. Get it tested at Autozone - my guess is it's time for a new battery.

Re: Help.

Yeah, I told him to get it jumped off, but he opted to just call the rental car company instead..... I'm a bit steamed right now about it..... I didn't mean to post a thread that has probably been done a thousand times either, but the search the threads thing wasn't working, or it was the computer most likely.... in any event... will it be good to go if jumped, or does it need flat out replaced? We literally don't have an auto zone or advance auto parts around here.

A SEARS OR WAL-MART, MOST AUTO PARTS STORES CAN TEST THE BATTERY. i WOULD TRY A JUMP START, IF IT STARTS LET IT RUN , AND TRY AND GET IT HOME. ONCE U GET IT HOME SHUT IT OFF AND SEE IF U CAN START IT. BUT WAIT TILL U GET IT HOME BEFORE SHUTTING IT OFF. iF IT STARTS AFTER U SHUT IT OFF, THE BATT. "MIGHT" BE ALL RIGHT. MAKE SURE U DID"T LEAVE A LIGHT ON OR A DOOR OPEN.

Re: Help.

O HEY, WHY YOU'RE AT IT, MAKE SURE YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY IS OFF. hah lol.

Yeah I agree with fmmiles; it probably is the battery. If if still has enough juice do be driven home, great - especially if it'll restart. But chances are it IS the battery, and that it won't restart, so you're gonna need a new battery. You don't need an auto parts store either, since you don't have one. I'm pretty sure most body shops or dealers might have a battery that will go with your vehicle - just gotta check around.

Re: Help.

It was the battery. I went and took it out, and got it tested (Lord, thank you for brand new parts stores;honestly didn't know there was one. Not a big name, tho) Anyhow, it was dead. Like deader than dead. Thank you all for responding so quickly!
