Squeaky belt

I'm still loving the new Celica, but I do have a question...

Recently we've had some very wet, snowy days, and it now sounds like there's a belt squeaking under the hood... Is this a normal Celica thing, or do I need to get my belts checked out and replaced? Also, just in case there's someone real familiar with this, the squeaking is lower pitched at idle and lower RPM's, but will increase in pitch to about 2,750-3,000, at which point it either stops or becomes inaudible. It seems to not be as bad once she's warmed up and been on the road a bit, but I plan on making a 700mile road trip soon, and would like to know if I should replace the belts before going.

Oh, and this is only on the wet icky days, when it's just cold and dry she doesn't squeak

more than likely if your car is getting really wet from underneath it's just the belts getting wet and making the squeaky noise. If the car is completely dry and it does it, then you should have it checked out, but if it's getting wet and just doing it then, there is no real worry. I same thing happens to my astro when it gets really wet (it's raining like crazy here, looks like I have a boat on some streets )

Re: Squeaky belt

yeah probaly just gettn wet...to know what belt it is theres a few thing you could do, turn your steering wheel really fast back and for when youve driven fora minut...itf it squeaks ists the power sttering...if your batterys dipping or your headlights get dim when there on and squeakage occurs then its your alternator belt...

Re: Squeaky belt

I Agree with 91 Celica...it sounds like it's probably the alternator belt, which is pretty simply to tighten up, if it's still squeaking...but like 91 Celica said, you should definitely be sure it's the right belt...

Hey. I'm having the same problem with my 89 GT. I'm taking it to get checked out today. If it is that, i'll post to let you know.
