I recently took my Formula 350 to the track. The first run felt good hittin 14.2 sec on the 1/4 mi. vs my buddie's GTA hitting 15.1 secs. Not bad for it being a stock car with less than perfect tires. Well, on the second run, crossing the finish line, a huge cloud of smoke came out of my tail pipes. Turns out the car is passin water through the exhaust. Im not much of an expert but its gotta be the heads or the gaskets right? I'm gonna put it in the shop because the car feels weird. If i'm gonna spend money on it, might as well fix it up bad ass. What recomendations do u have for my engine (TPI-350). From top to bottom.

Re: Formula 350 down!
$1500 to $2000 tops I got the car for $500 and i've invested about $1000 restoring it already, I dont want a 10 sec. car either, but something decent on the strip.

Re: Formula 350 down!
hmm so you ran 14.2 completely stock? is that typical? I have an '88 Formula 350 TPI and have been wondering the 1/4 mile time for stock for the longest time.

Well, my 1994 Trans-Am ran a 14.4 with a misfire stock with a shift kit...

I'd say headers, hi-flow cat, catback is where to start.

Re: Formula 350 down!
I have dropped about $1500 on mine so far (just in performance, not cosmetic) and I definetly have seen a huge difference from stock. Check my sig for the stuff I've done.

Re: Formula 350 down!
OK, how about real mods, like heads, pistons, chips, cams, injectors, fuel preassure regulators, and how much would I be looking at to supercharge or turbo charge the Formula?

Re: Formula 350 down!
superchargers run about $3000 give or take a couple hundred...but they are definitely worth it if you have the money.

Re: Formula 350 down!
Hey Silver, How much of a difference did that TPI air foil really make? Just curious to see if its worth investing in. Also, the descreening of the MAF...how much does that help and isn't that fairly risky as far as possible damage to the sensor goes?

Re: Formula 350 down!
TPI foil - Got mine on Ebay for $30, the Gtech measured only 4 more HP's, but acceleration felt much smoother off the line. Talked my dad into getting one for his 94 Camaro Z28, and he's rather pleased with it, as well.
MAF - Also picked up a couple HP's on this one, but NOTHING is getting through the ram air box to make it into the sensor. I just made sure I took my time and was very careful when I pulled the screens.
