Transmission problem or speed sensor

I have a 97 Nissan Altima and my car seems to be hanging out in second gear a little longer than normal. Once it surpasses 2nd gear it does fine. I took it to a local transmission place and was told that this is an internal (transmission) problem. I have a friend whose car was acting simarlarly (Toyota Camry) and was told the same thing by one mechanic. He took it for a second opinion and found out it was only a speed sensor.(which only cost him about 30 or 40 dollars as opposed to $1500 or more.) My car has about 115,000 miles on it. (automatic transmission) Somebody please help me as I can't afford to pay for a rebuilt transmission right now. Any information you have is greatly appreciated. My email address is [email protected]

I have a 93 nissan altima and i work on it alot with lisenced mechanics and so forth.... i'm really doubting that the problem is the speed sensor becuse usually that would cause your spedometer to act up if anything.... and for an altima, getting a new speed sensor your lookin at around 250 bucks for the sensor which is non-refundable.... if i was you i would take it to a couple different mechanics and really question they're reasoning on their diagnosis.

Re: Transmission problem or speed sensor

Check the basics fluid or leakage and add a Lucas tranny oil lube. Drive easier and pray hard that it soes not go when you need most.
