Question Slight Pause During Acceleration

as i usually have the answers or some sarcastic remark i find myself having a question that i can't answer with no sarcasm at all

95 sl2

when i accelerate hard i get a slight pause between 3 and 4 grand on the rpms... very strange. i have had my transmission serviced before. the fluid is a year old and is full and does not smell burnt. its done this ever since i've owned the vehicle. i keep everything really clean and well maintained. i just dont know what could possibly be the problem. my friends being of no help always answer... you drive a piece of plastic just get a new car thats not a saturn... granted they all have nicer cars but more money to put into them as well. i'm sure i'll post pictures when i get back up to school. but for now i just want to see if anyone can help me with my transmission dilemma. on a side note it has never caused me problems.

Re: Slight Pause During Acceleration

here come the questions

why are you jumping to assume the trans is bad? is this always at the same throttle position? have you replace the ECT? have a multimeter? any difference with NORM/PERF mode? all gears? only certain speeds? hot/cold? any other factors?

Re: Slight Pause During Acceleration

i never assumed the trans was bad. i popped my diff pin last winter and the winter before that my valves were getting stuck. no its not always the same throttle position but its not as noticable when i accelerate slowly BECAUSE its slow. i do not have a multimeter but i have acess to many. i will test out the difference tomorrow with norm and perf also i will test it while the car is hot or cold. i think its just 2nd gear but i'll get back to you on that... topping out the car is something i do only once and a great long while... 127 is pretty fast. but i'll get back to you tomorrow... i would do it now except i'm not sober.

obey all local traffic laws.

the ECT is the engine coolent temp sensor for the PCM, it is not the thermostat, search the forum for more info

Re: Slight Pause During Acceleration

ok so basically it does it in first gear during acceleration... after that the rpms never drop down below 4 under hard acceleration and you cant notice it during normal acceleration

Re: Slight Pause During Acceleration

i was hoping you were going to say it was second gear, if it was then i would say it was the TCC, normal operation. if its in first, then thats a little harder.

ether way, i would replace the ECT,then maybe the TTS(trans temp), and replace the trans fluid.

Re: Slight Pause During Acceleration

but you see, its done it ever since i've had the car. the tranny fluid has been replaced twice in the 3 years i've owned it the last time being july. so tonight i took another look at it again and it seems that its between 30 and 40 mph... again its completely stumping me

Re: Slight Pause During Acceleration

30-40? that is the TCC, no doubt about it. its normal(reference - http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=294180)

i would still replace the ECT if you haven't

Re: Slight Pause During Acceleration

that i don't know, but its not that the TCC is bad, this is programmed into the PCM, its just the timing is off.
