Odometer is off

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 360 4x4 that I purchased last week. I just found that the odometer is off by 0.3 for every mile. I brought it to a shop and they checked the speedometer reading and said the speedometer was accurate. Is there a seperate sensor for the odometer? Any other ideas?

If your tire size differs from what is stock it will change your speedometer and odometer, smaller than stock you will be going faster and more mileage, bigger tires slower and less miles. how much bigger or smaller will change your speedo and odo.

The tire size is stock. I was confused because the odometer is off while the speedometer is accurate.

Re: Odometer is off

How do you know that the odometer is off by 0.3 for every mile?

I checked it against the mile markers on the freeway. Also, I compared my odometer reading of my other vehicle to my truck.
