91 Passat - Tranny stuck in "sport" mode?

It's not in limp mode -- that's good -- I can get all 4 gears in the A/T -- the "S" switch lights up normally and turns off normally, but the I can't get the regular shift points just the sport mode ones like it wants to drive on the autobahn or something...a pain though when I just want to drive around town.

Any suggestions?

I've heard some people say they had problems with the switch & had to replace it.
