blown head gasket - how much time -what else
I have a 96 cav. 2.2 that I am planing on doing the head gasket myself. I was wondering what kid of time I should plan on it taking, special tools I will need, water leaked into oil so do I needto flush? also what else should I do while I am in there. I have 2 cars so its ok if it sits for a bit.
thanks Jim |

Re: blown head gasket - how much time -what else
i did mine in a day, first time doin a headgasket too... i needed of course 15mm deep socket, breaker bar, instructions, torque wrench. thats the special tools, and if you want to take your head off all the way, you will need the tool to disconnect your fuel line.

Re: blown head gasket - how much time -what else
It took me a few days to do mine. If your car has overheated you might want to get the head machined to make sure it is true. Only special tool i ended up using was a 1/2 torque wrench since I had everything else in my toolbox. You have to torque the head bolts down then turn them another 90 degrees. it really wasn't that bad at all.

3-4 hours if you have the tools on hand.
