hey all another question :P

ok i have had a car with baddly ballanced wheels before but it never did this, just want to make sure it is cause of my wheels

1 my car has some crudy tires on it right now, the 2 on the left are the same size the right back tire is a little bigger then them and my front right tire is the biggest one ( ya i know, tring to get time to pick up some matching tires )

2 the tires do not look like they where balanced

the problem i had

i was going down the toll road and when i hit just above 80 kph i got a god awlfull shudder in the stearing/front of the car ( i have had cars with some problems with tires / wheels, one was my old merc that had 3-4 inchs of play in the string wheel and another was my honda which always had tires worn down to the cord and it would shudder a little bit ) but this shudder in the stering OMG it scared the shit out of me, thought I was going to crash/have a tire pop off / totaly lose control. when i say massive shuddering in the sterring wheel I mean big / my hands hurt a little after it.

more back ground, this is first time i went 80 kph yet since i owned the car, and i slowly hit 80 again to see if the problem repeted it self and it did, just as bad as first time.

question about this problem,

is this most likly a issue with my wheels/ balance or seeing as how bad it was could it be that pluse something else. if i get my tires replaced and balanced should this problem go away.

thanks

btw got my tail lights and dash lights fixed, the person who helped me to install the radio seemed to not understand the that having all the spare wires that where not used just taped togher shorting out on them selves, doh ?? fixed that and it all went better

Re: hey all another question :P

ya the tires arent helping the situation but the shuddering thing sounds like wheel bearings to me.
Does the car only do it at 80?
Does it make a pulsing noise at lower speed?
Does it get progressivly worse or does it just show up all of a sudden?

Re: hey all another question :P

hell i wasnt going to go faster then 80 :P btw that was kph so i am still going kinda slow but it never did it below 80

no pulsing at lower speeds

happens all of a sudden just as i pass the 80 mark it starts shuddering violently

are bearings expensive ?

thanks

Jack It Up And See If There Is Any Play In The Wheels, Make Sure Everything's Nice And Tight.... Just In Case. OH and check the tyres are still round, no bumps....

If You Can Afford It At All, Get Some New Tyres, Replace The Two On The Right And Move The Ones On The Left To Either The Front Or The Back. Get Them All Balanced While They're Being Swapped Round.

If It Still Shakes Get Some More Advice, Here Or Toyota. Incidentally, What Do You Mean By Different Size? How Much Different Are They?

Re: hey all another question :P

things to check:

1. are your lug nuts all tight
2. is there any play in the wheels (when jacked up, like trd said)
3. is your suspension tight

if you have the time and a little extra cash, i'd just suggest having a shop do a basic tune-up and checkover of the car.
