Leaking oil filter adapter
All,
I have a '93 CV, about 140K miles. It's started leaking oil around the oil filter base adapter (the case aluminum thing with the both the oil filter base and the lower radiator hose connector that bolts to the block)some time ago, going from a slight drip to a steady trickle and it was time to fix it. I bit the bullet this afternoon and tore it down. I was wondering if there was anything "special" or a known problem about this. Is it probably just a bad gasket, or is this casting known to warp or crack? I can't see any obvious cracks. I'm going to check the mating surface for flatness good before I put it back together as well. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had experience with this problem. Thanks. -Richard |

Re: Leaking oil filter adapter
The gaskets are a known issue, just run a file accross the adapter and clean throughly before re-assembly.

Re: Re: Leaking oil filter adapter
ModMech,
Thanks. I got a new gasket and installed it this afternoon -- seems to be working fine with no more leaking. Now, all I need to do is replace the valve seals and this thing will be as good as new, or at least my '01 CV....... :-) |
