k&n filter

just looking at options, which is better, the kit that stays in the engine bay, or the kit that puts it inside the fender. i dont know a thing about these just that i hear them praised alot. i know the price diff, but is there a bit difference?

Re: k&n filter

Fenderwell will provide the coolest air. if you go the "stays in the engine bay" route then make sure you either buy or make a box for it. otherwise you'll be sucking in hot engine air.

Re: k&n filter

Ripn's right. Cold air boxes draw air from outside.
Other style is a poor mans hook up. Not saying that to be hard, but how many guys that have it wouldn't rather run a cold air box?

Re: k&n filter

If you have a 99 and up model then you could just gut and cut the stock air box and that should be more then good.

Re: k&n filter

its an 02 gp gt
i live in nebraska (unfortunetly) i was worried with the slushy conditions it winter, and with the snow and rain if that was not a goood idea to have the fender filter. will it stay dry or covered up enough to not get soaked?

Re: k&n filter

I know the Thrasher cold air box is OK in rain and hurricannes. I know a couple people said the "under hood" short pipe ones do pick up rain. And when that happens the car stops. No air goes thru a wet filter. I have never run one like that.

I helped a buddy install his FWI yesterday.....what a PITA! If you can manage it, buy a CAI. You can buy one used on ClubGP.

Re: k&n filter

i custom made a cold air box from a 20-30 degree bent 4 inch pipe(exhaust?) cut to about 6 inches before bend and 4 inches after bend, a nine inch K&N cone and some fire resistant wall insilation. Was way cheeper than kits and works well.

Yeah, the fenderwell area is pretty well closed off from splashing water and whatnot.
