Dohc conversions.

I have been dying to do a dohc conversion to my sohc car. but have any of you done it? what kind of worktime are we talking about here? what extra parts do i need and what needs changing? For example the dasbord rpm guage it shows 8000rpm insted of the 9000 for the dohc's and what about the exhust i know that i have a single exhaust but since i have 1 of 3 stealths in my country (the other ones also have a single exhoust) but the 3000gt has a double and they are all dohc in my country becouse we dont have any of the latest models. do i need to have a double exhaust for a dohc?

I have also been wondering..... Culd you make a TT stealth/3000gt a rear wheel drive by disconecting something in the driveline?

oh and one more question.... since there are nearly no emmisons laws in my country ive been thinking, what can i disconect and remove so that i can get some hp?

Well in my opinion you shouldn't bother converting and rather buy a DOHC and sell your SOHC...or even buy a VR4...converting costs more.

The 3000GT's don't have a true dual exhaust, just a muffler that makes it look like dual so your SOHC exhaust should be fine.

I'm guessing it would be near impossible to make it RWD without a different transfer case/transmission. Not sure on that one.

If you have no emission's then go nuts and put straight pipe all the way back, no cat or mufflers!! lol well maybe somt high flow mufflers, you want some backpressure.

For the conversion you need the motor, wiring harness, ECU, power steering lines, ac compressor, altenator, and speedo cluster. I may have missed something but thats the jist of it. As for the exhaust first gen RT's and ES's only have a single exit. The DOHC downpipe will bolt to your stock cat just fine as its the same all the way for NA's.

hehe yea. i dont want to wake everyone up in hte neighborhood when i come home what cost is concerned sports cars are extremely expensive my car had 46k miles on it when i bought it its a 1993 model and it cost me 9500$ american and that is considered a bargain!!!!!!

the vr-4's are around 16000$-22000$ so there not cheap, concidered the mpg you can get from a vr-4 its also not to comforting (me friends vr-4 eats more gas than my other friends Firebird5.7L !!!!!) now the way i see it is that i can get a motor and a ecu from a dohc car for about 1500$ but im only wondering if it is to much trouble to convert.

also a fun fact is that one galon of gas costs 5.6$ in iceland so it realy hurts your wallet if you go vr-4

I've done the Dohc conversion to my 95' Dodge Stealth. I have a automatic transmission in mines. You will have to change the Ecu computer, engine harness, but the most important thing to watch out for is where the cam sensor is located on the engine for everything to match up, believe me, I know. By not paying attention to this, I ended up buying two engines because the engine harness didn't match up with the engine, because of the cam sensor. It was really hard to find a engine harness for a automatic transmission, because of the kick down connection for the transmission, so I just bought another engine of the same year of my car, and transmission type to match up with the harness. The 91', and 92' models have the cam sensor on top of the engines I believe. It is better to get the engine from the same year model, and transmission type that you have just to be safe. Doing a swap can be very expensive, but if you make just one mistake, it can cost even more if you are willing to take the risk.

Because of the one mistake with the cam sensor, it took about a month, and two weeks to finish the swap. The car runs fine, you fill a big difference in the horse power. Since my Sohc engine had the distrubutor, and the Dohc has the coil pack, my rpm gauge doesn't work, but that can be fixed. I have the same rpm gauge, and the same stock exhaust exiting from the driver side.

High Flow Down Pipe
High Flow Cat
Aftermarket Exhaust of your choice

You do know the harness can be modified for the cam sensor to still work.
