electrical problems in my 85 Golf

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. Perhaps some one could provide some insite.

I own an 85 Golf (1.8L) and about three months ago experienced some major electrical problems. apparently, my battery which was too large for the model, slid out of place in a turn and my car turned off. When I tried to start it again, my panel lights went crazy and buzzers sounded.

The car could use a few new wires (especially for the battery!) and a new distributer, but is there anything that I really need to pay attention to? I am only a student in college, and could really use the car.
Thanks for your help.

Nathan.
