04 TB Sevice engine soon light

SES light comes on somewhat frequently. May stay on for a few days or a few hours. Truck seem to hesitate and loose power at times when light is on. Can sometimes smell as if something is burning (rubber/plastic). Can't seem to get to the dealer before light goes out. Looking for help.
