Dvd writer problem

A couple of months ago I purchased a Sony DVD RW DRU-540A
12x.
I have the most recent version of Nero and every freaking time I try and burn a dvd r, it keeps on coming up with a freaking error!!!!!!!!!!! I have already lost like 4 dvdr's already. It cannot be that the dvd r is screwed because it's freaking new and I have no idea how to verify it if it really is screwed. the first time I was burning it got to 80 percent, than BOOM! error!!!
I tried three times after that and it never even got past 15 percent.
Any ideas as to what it may be?
it keeps on saying focus or tracking error

it could be the dvdr's i'm using. I got a 25 pack for 13 dollars. This is stumping me beyond comprehension and if it is the dvd burner well one would think that I could take it back. WRONG. I threw away the box and the receipt in my ignorance thinking that it wouldn't mess up. Oh well, excuse me while I smash my head into a wall.

Re: Dvd writer problem

I have the same burner at work. Nero works OK burning CDs on it, I have similar problems. I just use DLA through Windows Explorer or similar to make my DVDs.

I SOLVED THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was the dvdr's that i bought, they were pieces of shit!!!!!
GRACIAS A DIOS puņeta!!!!!!

I bought a five pack of memorex dvdr's and they worked like wonders. Which means I'm going to have to stay stuck with them, which really isn't a bad thing but it's just that they are a little more expensive.
peace out all
