Re: 1995 explorer trans

Well we have all Fords at work, and we had that same problem with our pickups. The O/D light would just flash. We found out that the problem was in the shift lever itself. We had to have new ones ordered and popped them in and hooked up the wires, and everything was fine. The blinking stopped, and we were able to us the O/D again. Like I said, this was in our pickups. 95,98,and 99. All had the same problem, and the replacement lever fixed every single one of them.

'95 exploder? Hmmmm...You need to pull the codes from the PCM with a scan tool. Just perhaps, if you get a "3rd gear ratio error" code?...Install a new PCM. If any other code, then follow the pinpoint tests. It seems mainly the "F" series brake the harness throughout the shifter. But thats just what I see in my area.

Just curious as to why you only suggest replacing the PCM if you get the "3rd gear ratio error" I am having blinking O/D and got the above mentioned error. I feel there could be some tricky problem because the transmission problem has given mixed signals. Mainly now the speedometer jumps all over, overdrive never kicks in and the light starts blinking after about 5 min of driving. The transmission probably needs to be re-built I just hope its not some other combination of things.
