84 upgrades?

I got a 84 S10 blazer with the 2.8 V6, i've seen a couple of upgrades I can put on it, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these.
I was looking at Tornado air and the Turbonator. Please let me know. thanks

Tornado Air... is it one of those metal things that are supposed to increase fuel mileage and hp w/ the patented cyclonic air flow??? If it is I wouldn't recommend that, as it would create more resistance for the air and would, to me actually reduce hp. If it's power you're looking for, its simple, swap out the 2.8 and say hello to mr. 350 V8, or if that does not suit your fancy, upgrade to the 4.3L I run the 4.3 in my 89 and it has some speed.

im not much for swapping right now, don't exactly have the cash to do so, so are there anything i can put in to increase the power a little?

whole new exhaust. get a highflow cat. and smaller
diameter pipes,and good muffler, i prefer glass packs myself. improved my 4.3.

here's a cheap upgrade, and probably easy to find.
A 3.4LV6 from a mid 80's comaro is a direct bolt in, try taking the motor with everything on it (alternator, and what not)

You'll probably have to re-use your your flywheel or flex plate, and have it re-balanced, and possibly your oil pan, and oil pickup.

The price really depends on how much the auto wreck charges you for the motor. And the machine shop bill for the flywheel balancing
Several auto wrecks will let you pull the motor, and will charge you way less, and of course cash in hand always helps.

If you really want you can be done the swap over a weekend.

Smaller pipes? No.....

Just swap in a Flowmaster 40 or Ravin Z55 muffler for improved exhaust flow. You do NOT have to redo all the piping.

Also, use a K&N Air filter for improved intake.

...I like the idea of the 3.4lL Camaro swap.... especially if you can upgrade the truck to a fuel injection system. I have an '85 with the little 2.8L wheezer.

The only increase you're gonna get using those two things is the flow of money as it leaves your wallet....

Now before you go dropping major coin making vast improvements to the intake and exhaust system of the 2.8L, remember this: *ANY* improvement in an engine's ability to breath *WILL* effect the required fuel mixture in order to make the most of the upgrades.

We have all gotten spoiled by modern, computer controlled fuel injected engines which are constantly tweaking the fuel mixture for any number of external conditions... to include slipping on that less restrictive cat-back system, the freer flowing K&N intake or an awesome set of headers.

I got news for you.... the 2.8L residing under the hood of your '84 (just like the one in my '85) uses a carb.....and an incredibly nasty and dumb little one at that. Back in the "dark ages" when every car had a carb, if you made improvements in the engine's ability to breath, tweaking the carb mixture (richening it) was part of the deal if you wanted to get the most out of your hard bought speed parts; otherwise you'd just have some cool lookin' stuff and an anemic engine that ran real lean. And back then, carbs could be tweaked with different jets and metering rods (Holleys and Carters). Well, the Rochester VaraJet (the offical name for that sorry piece of aluminum bolted atop your motor) was designed for two things: low emissions and good fuel economy... period. Tweaking the mixture???? Not in your life, boy....besides that's one a' them damn Federal thangs.

Moral of the story, best performance on the 2.8L wheezer is a good tune-up......save yer $$$ for the motor swap

I agree with the saving, but if you cant wait and want a little more power, not much, but a little more with a vicious sound then I would go on ebay and buy a flowmaster 40 series, I got mine for 40 bucks, but make sure it isn't a knock off, it would change the sound a whole lot and people will notice a difference.
