First of all, thats a lot for a zc even if it comes with a tranny and ecu. And yes, it will be able to get you into the high 14's with some mods. But whats most important to do before you think you want to buy a new engine is research! If you had done some searching around, you would have figured out that a typical zc longblock costs ~$550, you could have easily found out what you would need to swap it in, parts lists, etc... Also, why dont you want to get a z6 or y8 or something? why not a b18? Im not trying to harp on you but just do your homework and you'll be so much happier in the end.

one thing i should have asked you is whats your budget? If you were ready to drop $900 plus shipping for a zc, would you be willing to spend $400 more to get a B16 which has ~30 more hp, more aftermarket support, and an endless list of mods? That would get you into the low 15, high 14 sec range right out of the box. I mean, theres nothing wrong with the zc, i have one myself, but if money isnt that tight, go ahead and get a B16 or B18, or...... These are the types of things you have to consider

hmmm how hard is it to get oem parts for a b16? can you walk to auto zone or pepboys and pick up parts?

Yup, you just have to know what cars to get them from. Some from del sol Si's, some from 91 integras.

Re: D16zc
The ZC is actually one of the hardest engines to get stock replacement parts for. I called on a timing belt for one the other day (88 prelude) and a couple companies didn't even have it listed in their computer. I'd say go with a b16, z6 or y8 if you want it to be able to be fixed and or avialability of parts.

i'm not exactly disagreeing with you. i'm more pointing out that you do indeed need to research any swap you intend to do. there are many ways to do many swaps. another thing to consider is future cost of maintance. performance parts like header & clutch and even maintance parts like water pump and timing belt cost more for the b series verses the d. i have sohc vtec y8 $500 engine $200 ecu $175 wire harness $285 center force stage 2 clutch $300 dc sports header ------ $1460 jer has dohc vtec b16 Engine LSD Tranny Hasport mounts & linkage everything else to install *stock clutch it came with *stock exhaust mani, no aftermarket header -------- $2285 he may have a couple of more horses than me but he can't afford that aftermarket clutch or header....if i added turbo i would have more horses and maybe $200-500 more spent plus my clutch and header if you call on OEM replacemnt parts they will be more as well. the opposite argument can be made that if you have the money for the b series and to maintain it, go for it as it has potential for more hp. the d series is easier to tap out ....so yea, do research

Re: D16zc
about the same as her Y8, I got my z6 and rebuilt it turbo'd it and still was about $2400 but it also is pushing 170hp with more on tap by inceasing the boost and intercooler.

$900 for a ZC?????? I'd save up for longer and go w/a B18 (LS) or at least a B16, even though the LS has more torque. dude ZC's Suck. they're not worth the money, and finding OEM parts for them is harder than finding aftermarket parts for them, the B-series is stronger/more powerful/has more potential/and you'll be happier w/one then just having a ZC. the B-series is worth the extra money in the long run

Re: D16zc
I paid 1500 for my b16, for the full swap, and I mean FULL. Mounts, linkage, rad hoses, everything. All i needed to buy was a jumper harness for wiring up vtec, and you can make them for cheaper than i paid for it.
I really say go for a b16 or b18. All these SOHC people preach about how much cheaper their swap is and all but in the long run a b18 or b16 is going to make more power. And a lot of the time when you get motors from importers, they have aftermarket clutches, and still have lots of life in them. So go SOHC if you are on a budget. But if you can wait a bit longer and save a b series is the way to go.

Re: Re: D16zc
like Cjz89civic said, a z6 will cost as much as a y8. the z6 is 92-95 civic si/ex and the y8 is 96-00 ex.
