Newbie with a question

Ok, I have a 93 Explorer that I use as my "work truck" The other day after work, I went to get in it to go home, and it wouldn't start. The starter was turning over just fine, and I have plenty of juice in my battery. All the connections are tight, and it all looks good. I guess my worst fear is what I figured it to be from the get go---Fuel Pump. I'm hoping not, but hope won't get you a damn thing in life. So I plan on dropping the damn tank tomorrow and changing out the damn thing.

The reason I posted is because I was again hoping against hope that maybe someone would have another idea as to what I could check out first before I get involved in dropping the tank and stinking up our shop with gas stench.

Re: Newbie with a question

Double check that the inertia fuel pump shutoff switch was activated by accident. Located in the right front kick panel area. Also do you have a pressure gauge that you can attach to the fuel rail to check the fuel pressure? Do you have spark at the plugs. Don't forget that the vehicle does not have a conventional distributor, it has an ignition pack, perhaps that may be bad and is not giving energy to fire the plugs. I would do all that before dropping the tank since it's the most amount of work and a stinking pain. Good luck and let us know what happened.

Yes, definately check that switch under the passenger side carpet near the heater duct on the floor. Sometimes it gets activated by accident. Keep us posted!

Re: Re: Newbie with a question

I appreciate the help guys. I got into it today, and like you said, I wanted to double and triple check everything before dropping the tank. Luckily, it was the inertia switch. The damn plastic clip that holds the wires to the pump broke. So thankfully, it was an easy fix. It's cobbled together for right now, because the Ford dealer hear had to order the damn part. But at least I got it back home into my own garage.

Thanks again.
