93 ticking

I got a 93 explorer i just got from my sister. it makes a ticking noise like a lifter or a bent rod. My sister had iot for awhile and said it always made that noise and her husbands brother drove it before her and her husband asaid it was making that noise the whole time his brother drove it. Any ve3hical i have heard making that noise the engine blows within a few weeks. I tried taking the serpentine belt off to see if it was my AC unit making the noise but it wasn't. Any ideas on what could be wrong. it doesn;t have any power loss either like all other cars i have ridin in that make that noise. Also my abs light is on and my abs does not work. what all could that be?

Regarding ABS light, first check your brake fluid level. Second make sure the the sensor wire is pushed all the way into the master cylinder, the clip on the wire connector sometimes break off and the connector backs out of the socket. Third, It could be the RABS valve.

I am not an Expert, but from what I have seen it can vary. Some engines often develope a "Tick" or valve Chatter when they age, (4. Cyl. MX-6 for example) yet is still a strong engine. My best Friend has one with 250,000 KMs, (approx. 157,000 miles.) It is stock. It has HIGHER compression then it did from the factory. Yes Higher. It seems some of his carbon build up has reduced the size of his conbustion chamber and thus raised his compression a bit. I have heard of these engines ticking for 50,000 miles and seeming healthy still.

I am no expert. My 92 Explorer with 260,000 kms does a similar thing. Logic tells me my engine is eager and strong and not to worry. I cannot help but worry. I want it to stop.

AS for the ABS Mine does not work either. Personally I preffer my vehicles without ABS. I am only 22 but learned without it (dirt bikes, beater cars,, etc.)

If I have a vehicle that has ABS, if it works, I dissable it, but thats just me, lol. Plus you can stop sooner without it, IF you are able to drive it well. The problem is that a natural reaction is to STOMP on the break when something happens you are not expecting.

Possibly try some engine tune up that you can put into the crankcase.

My 94 has a tick when you fire it up SOMETIMES but goes away when it is warm. I don't really worry about it too much because the thing runs as strong as it ever has, just has the same old no power 4.0 V6 lol

Thanks guys al your input has helped alot. My gut was telling me to just ignore it since the engine has not lost any power and my sisters husband says it has been doing it for years. as with the abs i would not care if except for that this is my winter vehical and i hav had ity lock up on me whn barely touching the breaks and then i go sliding. thanks again guys.
