Ok I don't know if you guys are as fanatical as the Evo7 forum readers, but I was comparing between the two because I might be getting a new car at the end of this year.
So basically going to the cars: RX8: 1.3liter NA - 250hp, 90% coming around ~3200-3300rpm (according to Road&Track April 2002) 0-60 in 6secs 16" wheels normal (18" optional) FR drive Evo VII: 2liter turbo - 260-270hp (US version) around 3500+rpm 0-60 in 5secs 17" wheels normal (18" optional) 4WD standard ACD & AYC 17/16 Brembo brakes Recaro seats Also, please list upgradabilities available for the RX8's NA engine. I know the Evo7 has lots of upgradable components for it's engine and turbo and intercooler, but I don't know if RX8 will be able to reach 350hp using the same engine and just upgrading some components. Any information is helpful on this topic. Thanks a lot! -Russell |

Rotary Engines are known for making tons of power with few modifications. Also rotary engines like to be driven so don't be afraid of dgetting in on it. BTW, the RENESIS is NA while the EVO7 is turbocharged. 250 N/A horses BEFORE turbo charging is a lot. Just imagine what it would put out turbocharged!!!

i think the AWD in the evo 7 will put it over the top. nothing tops AWD. well for amateur drivers atleast.

Evo 7's going to hand the RX8 it's ass...it really has no chance...supposedly the Evo 7's going to run the 60 in 4.8 seconds...can we say...BOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTT!

r u sure that the new rx8 is a NA car????
isn't it a rotary engine car??? the same as its predecesser RX7??? its a big difference btween a rotary engine compared to NA as rotary has no any cylinder........... |

The RX8 is NA for sure...creating 250HP at like 9000 RPM's...the guys at Mazda thought that the HP was alot for an NA car and are deciding to leave it NA for now since it is a good engine...they say.

i do agree with u.... i have cum across a few turbocharged NA civic in malaysia... 260bhp!!! its a lot compared to its original spec of only 150~170bhp(EK9)...........
i remember 2 years ago a motorsport exibhition in singapore exibit a record breaking civic EK9 from japan of 430bhp!!! cool.... juz wondering how they did it to a NA engine............ |

True te Evo7 might be faster but how much cooler it is to drift Fr than AWD??
Exactly, lots cooler. J/K Personally I wouldn't mind having both. One for dirt and one for the road!!

I think the reason that the RX8 is rated higher in horse power while being naturally aspirated is becuase unlike the Evo 7... or any other 4, 6, or 8 cylinder vehicle... it's a rotary engine. Unlike the others, a rotary engine has about 6 moving parts... where as the others can have upwards of 90!!
So you end up transferring a lot more of the horse power created by the engine to the wheels. I know my old '86 RX7 was a beast of a car. Naturally aspirated, well tuned, had the rotors polished and the cylinder honed out, put an intake and exhaust on it. I was pushing upwards of 170 hp. I miss that car. Now I've got my Mirage... and, depending on my deployment status, I'm planning on fixing it up. Though I still haven't gotten an answer to my posting on the Mirage board.... |

Most probably the evo will spank the rx8 from a dead start but i bet the rx8 has awesome top end like the rx7 while the evo will have weak top like the wrx.
