93 escort wgn lx all crank no start

I have a 93 ford escort wagon lx. Not to born you, But a little history on my car. My dad bought this car at a auction with 12,000 mi on it. Driving the car very little. I bought the car from him 3 yrs ago. The car now has 40,000 mi on it. Not bad for a car that's 12 yrs old. Any way here's my problem. My coolant light came on so I checked my gauge it was hotter than normal but just a little. I stopped the car right away at a park and got water. I started the car before I put the water in the over flow tank. This car starts perfect every time but this time. I had to crank on abit before it would start. The car felt a bit sluggest but the light went out and temp back to normal. At this point I got on the freeway and drove about 8 mi. Then the car just stopped running. All the lights came on some smoke out high up on the drive side of the hood. The temp gauge never got hot. Now the car just cranks So call dad we check: its getting spark and fuel it turns over valves are moving so timing belt not broken. tow it home we test fuel preassure it was 32 lbs. Had the same problem with sister tempo fuel preassure had to be 45 lbs. Dad says thatsa got to be it. So we put a new fuel filter and a new fuel pump in the tank. fuel preassure still 32 lbs.( I later read on this forum that 32 lbs is the right lbs for my car) Car just cranks feels like it wants too but just tdrns over. Maybe I heared a pop or too. Dad don't know but thinks the timing belt jumpped some teeth. So thats it. I'm hoping someone can help me by telling me what the problem is. a sensor? or something we're missing. before replacing the timing belt. I really what to thank anybody and everybody who even finished reading this thats more than I can really ask for. Sorry its was so long. thanks again for reading this and a big thanks if you can help

Yep, sounds like you stripped a few teeth on your timing belt. Take the cover off and see if everything turns when you turn it over. It's really a simple job and you shouldn't have damaged anything by breaking it.
