Question Push Button 4WD button lights

Hi all, Just got a 99 suburban fully loaded (it's a nice truck). When we bought it I tried all the buttons and stuff, everything seemed to work ok, today I noticed that the 2High and Auto4wd button lghts do not light up when they are pushed, they lightup briefly when I push the 4wd button, and the 4wd button lights up. What could be causing this and is it something I should really worry about...

Thanks

Re: Push Button 4WD button lights

1st of all, check the "4wd" and "t case" fuses in the panel left side of intsrument panel. 2nd, turn the key to run, not start, and see if all the lights blink a couple of times. 3rd, the t case will only accept a shift if the engine is running and tranny is in neutral. If any of these don't work, you'll need a scan tool to get codes for repair. As far as worrying about it, if you select something and the light doesn't come on, it's not shifting to what you selected!!............Steve

Re: Push Button 4WD button lights

both fuses are fine, the lights don't flash when the key is turned to run and there are no error codes in the computer. I know the transfer case is shifting, I can hear and feel it engage and I can shift the whole thing into neutral (the way you would if you were towing it). It looks like it's just the lights.....

thanks for the help....

Re: Re: Push Button 4WD button lights

In case you haven't figured it out yet, I had the same problem and after taking it in for a checkup, the mechanic informed that he has seen quite a few of these with the switch acting up. He replaced the switch, and everything work fine. I picked up a new switch ($60) and installed it myself and it took care of the problem.
