87 Caprice 305,starts BUT won't start

Ok here is the problem.
It cranks over and I have spark. I spray starting fluid into the cab and it starts and then dies as soon as the starting fluid is used up.
When I went to replace the fuel filter I cranked over the car with it dissconcted and itr shot fuel out of the line at a constant pace So i know its not the fuel pump.
I put in the new filter and hooked it back up and still it won't start.
So I had someone pump the gas peddle for like 20 times as I looked into the carb. and I saw no fuel flowing at all.

Any Ideas.

Thanks

Sounds like the inlet valve is stuck closed. The inlet valve is connected to the float and when there is enough gas in the carb, the valve is closed. As the level drops in the bowl, the float starts to drop and the inlet valve opens.

If it's an original carb, I'd get a rebuilt one.
